Housing

If you've decided to move out, you might want to take a look at the following sections, which offer helpful tips on types of housing, how to find it, what to look for when you rent a place to live, information on housing benefit, your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and what to do if you are at risk of becoming or already are homeless.

Finding a place to live can be a challenge, especially if you are under 18.  If you are under 18, you are still legally a child, and this means that you can't sign a tenancy agreement.  You need a guarantor, someone who will sign to say that they will pay the rent if you don't.  Most letting agents and private landlords aren't keen to rent to under 18s, even with a guarantor.

If you are thinking of moving out, try speaking to your personal adviser, or an independent housing adviser who understands the housing situation in your area, before rushing into any decisions. They can explain your options and give you the best advice before you make a move.
