Cambridge area

The Cambridge Area 14 - 19 Partnership (formerly the Collegiate Board) runs a formal application system for people who live in this area, or people wanting to apply to schools and colleges here. Where there are more applicants than places, preference is given to students from the Cambridge area.

How do I apply?

There is one application form that covers all the post-16 centres in the Cambridge area. You can get an application form from your careers co-ordinator or from the admissions contact at your first choice centre.

Go along to open days / evenings to find out more about the courses and centres. You can find details on these evenings here.

Once you are sure, complete your application form. Make sure you and your parents/carers sign it, before you hand it back to your school / college careers co-ordinator. They will then send your application to your first choice centre.

Is there a deadline?

The closing date for applications is usually in the middle of February but your school / college is likely to want applications in earlier so that references can be completed.

What happens next?

Your first choice centre will call you for interview; your parents / carers can go along with you too.

When will I know if I've been accepted?

You will normally receive an offer of a place by the end of the first week in May. The offer may be conditional on you achieving certain grades in your GCSEs or other exams.

What happens if I don't get my first choice?

If you're not successful with your first choice, your other choices will be considered in turn until a suitable course is found.

What if I change my mind?

Ideas do change and some people will want to change their course choices. First talk to your careers co-ordinator or form tutor; they will advise you.

Your personal adviser can help you think through your ideas and look at different options.

What if I don't meet the conditions of my offer?

Contact your post-16 centre immediately; they will help and advise you.
