Cystitis

Cystitis is the inflammation of the bladder, a condition that a lot of girls and women will have at least once in their life.  If you have cystitis you might:

  • Find urinating very painful
  • Feel like you need to urinate more often but find it hard to go
  • Have urine that is cloudy or have blood in your urine

Bacteria or other germs that get into the little tube that leads to the bladder can cause cystitis. This sometimes happens through sex or masturbation.  It can happen if you wipe yourself from back to front after using the toilet, because germs get transferred from your bottom to your urethra.  Make sure you always wipe yourself from front to back to reduce the chance of this happening. Try avoiding perfumed soaps or towels, because these can also cause irritation.

If you are having trouble urinating, make sure that you continue to drink water - as much as you possibly can.  If you think you have cystitis, see your GP, who can prescribe antibiotics to clear up the infection.
