Sexually transmitted infections

STIs are infections passed from person to person during unprotected sexual contact, including intercourse and oral sex.

  • Several serious infections, including HIV (the virus that can lead to AIDS) and chlamydia, can exist in your body without any noticeable symptoms.
  • Although most infections can be treated or their effects reduced, if they are left untreated by a doctor they can have long-term effects including infertility and even death.
  • Always use a condom.

If you think there is any possibility you may have been infected with an STI, see your CASH clinic straight away. It won't go away if you just forget about it.
