Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer among young men from 15 - 34 years.  If it is caught early enough, it is treatable, so it is important to get in the habit of checking for any symptoms.  More and more young men seem to be getting testicular cancer, but the reason for this increase is unknown.

You should check yourself on a monthly basis, looking for any of the following symptoms on the testicles or scrotal area:

  • Swelling
  • Any lumps
  • A dull ache
  • Changes in the size, shape or heaviness of the testicles
  • Occasionally, stomach or back pain can be an indication of testicular cancer.

You may not feel any discomfort or pain, but if you notice these symptoms, it is worth talking to your GP.  If you find testicular cancer soon enough, it can be successfully treated, and it shouldn't affect your sex life or your ability to have children.
