Bullying

No one deserves to be bullied. It can make a person feel miserable, afraid, ashamed and alone.  It can involve:

  • Gossiping about another person.
  • Spreading rumours.
  • Humiliating a person in public.
  • Using racist insults or insults about someone's sexuality.
  • Making negative comments about a person's appearance, clothes or actions.
  • Threatening to hurt someone or another person they care about.
  • Making threatening phone calls, text messages or emails.
  • Spitting, slapping, biting, kicking, pushing, grabbing, punching or otherwise physically harming a person.
  • Stealing.
  • Rejecting or isolating a person from a group.

If you are being bullied, the first thing to remember is that it is not your fault.  Bullies pick on other people because they can't deal with their own problems and need someone else to feel bad.  Don't let a bully destroy your self-confidence and ruin your life.

Tell someone you trust what is going on.  If you aren't sure who to talk to, you might try getting in touch with someone at the email or telephone advice lines listed.  You don't have to tell them your name. If you would like some tips on how to deal with a bully, try the listed websites as well.
