Starting work at 16

Last year 12% of 16 year old school leavers in Cambridgeshire started in full-time work.

Your reasons for wanting to start work at 16 may be many and varied. You could:

  • want to be earning
  • prefer to be learning through work rather than on a full-time course
  • be keen to do a job that prefers to take on 16 year olds

Here are some options you could consider:

  • an Apprenticeship - working and gaining NVQs and other relevant qualifications at the same time
  • getting a job - try and find one with some training or do a part-time college course to get qualifications
  • other forms of training - if you need some extra help before starting in work your personal adviser can tell you what is available in your area.

You can find out more about all these options and where to look for work on the  'related stuff' pages.
