How do I get an Apprenticeship?
Use Apprenticeships Online to search and apply for Apprenticeship opportunities. Follow the link here to check out current opportunities and find out more.
Check the site regularly as new opportunities are added all the time.
Some opportunities will still be advertised in local papers and on school/college noticeboards, so keep checking these as well.
Some opportunities on Apprenticeships Online will be with training providers. For these you will also need to find an employer willing to offer you training. Your training provider and personal adviser will be able to help you with your applications.
And you can also apply to local employers who do the sort of work you're interested in, even if they are not advertising any vacancies. This is called applying "on spec". Your personal adviser can suggest possible employers to try.
Don't just apply to one Apprenticeship - some are very popular and you may not be successful straightaway.
What happens after I've applied?
You may be invited for an interview. This is a chance for the employer to find out more about you and for you to find out more about them. Click on 'Going for an Interview' under related pages for some tips and advice. You may also be asked to sit an assessment test. This is to make sure you can cope with the training.
Some Apprenticeships are advertised for several months. You may not hear whether you've been successful for a while.
Will I get an Apprenticeship straightaway?
Not necessarily. Apprenticeship places are limited and there is competition. Some occupations are particularly popular.
What if I need more help?
Your personal adviser can help you think about your ideas, fill out applications, prepare for interviews and look at other options.
