Learning pays - more learning greatly improves your earning power.

Most jobs provide training - you have to learn what to do, how to do it and where you fit in the company. You may be offered the chance to attend training courses that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. But not all training offers formal qualifications.

If your employer does not offer training to recognised national qualifications you could be entitled to reasonable time off for study or training.

This could be for you if you : 

• are aged 16 - 17
• left school with few, if any qualifications
• are employed but not on a recognised training programme

Your employer must give you reasonable time to study at work or elsewhere for a nationally recognised qualification.

Approaching your employer may be difficult - your personal adviser can help and may be able to talk to your employer on your behalf.
