If you have a disability there may be a range of benefits you can apply for.
However everyone is considered individually so you would need to check out your own situation and whether you can apply for the benefits outlined below. The details here are only brief you will need to check the facts at your local Jobcentreplus.
Disability Living Allowance
This is paid to anyone who needs help to look after themselves (care) or help to get around (mobility). It is paid whatever your situation; whether you are working, at school or college or not able to work. Depending on your circumstances you may get both or only one of the elements.
There are lots of forms to fill in to make a claim for this benefit so ask for help if you need it.
Incapacity Benefit
If you are unable to work because of sickness or disability you may be able to claim incapacity benefit. You can claim this from age 16.
Income support
This is a means tested benefit for people who do not have much money, are not working or do not have to sign on as available for work.

From 27 October 2008, Employment Support Allowance (ESA) will replace Incapacity Benefit and Income Support paid because of an illness or disability for new claimants only.
Housing benefit
If you have to pay for rent or lodgings you may be able to make a claim for housing benefit. This is to help those on low incomes or benefits to pay their housing costs.

Council Tax benefit
If you have to pay council tax and are on a low income or benefits you can claim for council tax benefit. You do not have to be receiving any other benefits to make a claim for this.

If you need adaptations to your workplace to enable you to cope with work you may be able to get help from your Adviser at the Jobcentre Plus.
