When can I start work?
As a school leaver you can start full-time work on the last Friday in June in the year you finish Year 11. You can do some part-time work before leaving school, certain hours and times apply.
I am still at school, where can I find a Saturday/evening job and what hous can I work?
You can look in newsagents, shop windows or post offices for ads for local part-time work. Also be proactive - ask in shops, supermarkets, cafes, etc about the possibility of some work. For details on what hours you can work click here.
What is the National Minimum Wage?
As of 1st October 2007 the national minimum wage is:
Age 16-17 is £3.40 per hour
Does not apply to apprentices
Age 18-21 is £4.60 per hour
If you are on an apprenticeship your employer does not need to pay you the national minimum wage until you are 19
Aged over 22 years is £5.52

You should contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau - www.citizensadvice.org.uk - search on their website for your local service point.

I have been offered an Apprenticeship - how do I get the training?
If you have found an employer willing to offer you an Apprenticeship, but doesn't know how to provide the training, then you need to speak to our team on 01480 375603 who will be able to help with identifying training providers for you.
Where can I get my CV done?
If you contact us at your local Connexions centre we can arrange an appointment for you to come in and get your CV completed. You can also pick up a leaflet called 'Applying for jobs' from your school or college, which gives guidance on how to do it.
